Road Trip Chronicles, Safety Tips

Trucker’s safe following distance probably saves some lives

A truck driver’s safe following distance probably prevented some serious crashes in this dash cam video.

In the clip, the filming driver is traveling behind a camper that suddenly slows and maneuvers around some obstacles before pulling in front of a flatbed already stopped in the right lane. As the camper drives away, the filming trucker realizes that a set of patio chairs has been left all over the road and quickly alerts oncoming drivers of the issue on his CB.

The flatbedder can then be seen taking his time moving the chairs off the road before the filming driver jumps in to help.

“Excellent ! You were alert and had proper following distance. You seem very genuine and kind. Need em like you on the road!” commented one viewer.

“Flatbed driver is being WAY too lackadaisy about getting that debris OFF the roadway! He’s lucky the other truck stopped, and is blocking off that lane, but this creates a dangerous situation, eventually some idiot is going to come blasting down the highway not paying attention, and rear end that truck. Stop walking in slow motion, and get moving! Clear that lane!” added another.
