Driver fatigue suspected in overnight commercial vehicle crash on I-70 in Colorado

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) says that driver fatigue may have contributed to a serious two truck crash on I-70 early Friday morning.

CSP reported that two semi trucks collided around 4:30 a.m. on September 20 on eastbound I-70 between Eagle and Edwards

From CSP:

“One truck was westbound when it went through the left shoulder barrier and into the eastbound lanes where it collided with a semi truck traveling eastbound. There were two occupants in the eastbound truck. Both were transported to a local area hospital. Their conditions are unknown. There is no reported injury to the westbound driver. Investigators suspect fatigue in the crash but are still investigating all possible causes before completing the investigation and issuing any charges.”

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, eastbound I-70 is closed between Exit 163 (Edwards) and Exit 167 (Avon).

CSP said that the I-70 closure is expected to last most of the day.

This is a developing story.
