An elderly truck driver is still out there trucking after over half a century on the truck and more than 6 million accident free miles.
Mary “Candy” Bass made her last appearance on the internet back in 2023, when she was awarded Driver of the Year by the Women in Trucking Association after 6 million safe miles and over 50 years on the road. Now, she has been spotted again in a viral video making the rounds on the web.
In the spring of 2023, Candy was reportedly 78, which would make her about 80-years-old in her new video. The clip is simple – Candy is just closing the door to her trailer – but it has made an impact on truck drivers who understand, and those who don’t.
“Candy Bass has given extensively to the trucking profession, not only during her time on the road and commitment to safe driving, but through mentorship and her desire to be a guiding star for women at all stages of their careers,” Jennifer Hedrick, president and CEO of WIT, said of the 2023 award.
